Hip Arthroscopy

With the aid of hip arthroscopy, surgeons can inspect the hip joint without having to make a significant incision (cut) through the skin or other soft tissues. A variety of hip issues are diagnosed and treated with arthroscopy. A tiny camera called an arthroscope is inserted into your hip joint during hip arthroscopy by your doctor. Your surgeon uses the images from the camera to direct the tiny surgical instruments on a video monitor. Your surgeon can do arthroscopic surgery with much smaller incisions than they would need to perform open surgery because the arthroscope and surgical tools are thin. Patients experience reduced pain and joint stiffness as a result, and the recovery period and time it takes to resume preferred activities are frequently shortened. A ball and socket joint makes up the hip. The acetabulum, a piece of the big pelvis bone, creates the socket. The femoral head, or ball, is located at the top of the femur (thighbone). The surfaces of the ball and socket are covered by articular cartilage, a supple, durable tissue. The smooth, frictionless surface it provides makes it easier for the bones to move freely past one another.
