What is Paediatric Orthopaedics?
A) Club Foot Management- Club Foot is a congenital abnormity where a child is born with crooked feet which are rotated inwards. Although it may look difficult CTEV( clubfoot) is hundred percent treatable with special plaster techniques called the Ponsetti technique provided timely and correct treatment.
B) Knock Knees / Bowed Legs- These are growth abnormalities around the knee causing either overgrowth or undergrowth of one of the sides of the bone. Here in this case time of the start of treatment is of utmost importance and deformity may worsen if no treatment is given which becomes very difficult to manage.
C) Rickets- It's due to severe deficiency of Vitamin D in childhood and bones become weak and deformed and may cause either bowed or knocked knees. Its reasons range from dietary deficiency to genetic predisposition. It needs a timely diagnosis and is a reversible and treatable condition.
